The Charging & Discharging of Battery Maintenance -  Lithium-ion / LiFEPO4 Batteries

Charge : ( CC & CV )
The charging current 0.2C is the standard value, which is most conducive to maximizing the cycle life.
【EX : 12v100A battery pack, use 14.6v20A charger(0.2C*100Ah) 】
Please note that Standard / Slow charging can extend the cycle life of the battery better than fast charging.

When choosing a charger, it is best to use a charger with a smart stop charging device too.
(For example, smart chargers include Anti-over-charge time device, negative voltage difference (-DV) cut-off charging, and anti-overheating induction function)

Discharge :
Before purchase or use, please pay attention to the discharge rate or maximum continuous discharge current value of the battery pack, and do not exceed the discharge rate of the battery pack.
Usually, the continuous discharge current of the LiFEPO4 battery pack is 1C.
( Discharge Rate, 1C = the capacity of battery pack)
Avoid over-discharge. The depth of discharge is one of the main factors affecting the life of lithium iron phosphate(LiFEPO4) batteries.
The higher the depth of discharge, the cycle life of lithium iron phosphate batteries will be shortened.
So You need not wait to charge until the power runs out.
Lithium batteries have no memory effect, so you needn’t worry that charging will affect capacity and cycle life.

Notice! You must use matching chargers at the same specification.

Chargers of different types of specifications will immediately damage or hurt the battery pack and are not covered by the warranty.

Forbid mixed to charge. When using (LFP) lithium iron phosphate batteries with different capacities, chemical structures, or different charge levels, and a combination of new and old batteries, the lithium iron phosphate batteries will also discharge too much, which will lead to reverse polarity charging.

Long time Storage and no charge, the Cycle life will be reduced too. The ideal service life of the lithium iron phosphate (LIFEPO4) battery can reach when the electronics persist for a long time.

It is recommended to charge the battery pack every 1-2 months when it is not applicable and stored for a long time.

Each charge lasts about 1 hour to keep the activity and power of the battery pack, and it will not cause the battery pack to be depleted.
The fully charged state is not recommended. A long-term full-charged state will affect the consistency of the cells in the battery pack. Consistency is one of the decisive factors leading to the attenuation of cycle life.

Working Environment
If the Lithium-ion battery is used at a high temperature for a long time, its electrode activity will be attenuated and the service life will be shortened.
Therefore, it is a good way to maximize the cycle life of the Li-ion battery pack as far as possible to maintain the appropriate operating temperature.

Please note to clean the battery pack, to prevent dust and stains from sticking to the outer box and the surface of the positive and negative terminals.
Battery Maintenance is also a major point to extend the battery life. The accumulation of dust is caused by the static electricity caused by the operation of the battery to absorb the dust, and the accumulation of dust will hinder the operation of the components, so it is also very important to clear the dust on time.

Ensure that the lithium iron phosphate battery pack in a good working environment is necessary.
According to the experimental results, the lifespan of lithium iron phosphate batteries decays as the number of recharges increases.

Under normal temperature (25°C), the charge-discharge cycle life of lithium iron phosphate batteries is above 3000-5000 times, such as 4000cycles @1C / 25 ℃ 80%DOD means that it is charged and discharged at a discharge rate of 1C under temperature – 25℃, 80% of the depth of discharge is maintained after 4000 cycles of charge and discharge.

ENERAPIDO Lifepo4 battery pack meets this cycle life standard.
The working temperature should not be too low (-20℃) or too high (60℃).

If the iron-lithium battery is used in an environment above the specified operating temperature, that is, above 50°C, the battery’s power will continue to decrease, and the battery’s power supply time will not be as long as usual.

If you have to charge the device at a high temperature, the damage will be even greater.
Even if the battery is stored in a hot environment, it will inevitably cause corresponding damage to the quality of the battery.

Therefore, keeping the operating temperature as suitable as possible is a good way to extend the life of the lithium battery.

  • Storage Environment

Lithium iron phosphate batteries should be in a clean, dry and ventilated environment, avoid contact with corrosive substances, and keep away from fire and heat sources.

  • Frequency of use

If you want to maximize the effectiveness of the lithium iron phosphate battery, you need to use it frequently, so that the electrons in the lithium battery keep in a flowing state.
If you don’t use the lithium battery usually, please remember to charge it every 1-2 months, the same as the operation method above.

Should the lithium battery be fully charged when it is stored?

Many people think that storing the battery after it is fully charged.

In fact, this is the wrong approach and cognition, and it may even cause big damage to the battery.
During the use and shelving of the lithium battery, the battery will continue to form/consume the SEI film, which will Gases that help negative electrode film be produced, and flatulence (bulging) will occur;

The internal crystals of the lithium battery are too active to cause the battery to swell (bulge), the general reason is that the battery is overcharged, over-discharged, the charging current is too large, and the battery is fully charged for a long time;

The long-term activity of the crystals in the lithium battery will make the battery slowly bulge up, and the battery will be fully charged for a long time. This chemical reaction has been carried out at a faster speed. Although the battery self-discharge rate is relatively low, the chemical reaction continued.

Disadvantages of long-term storage of fully charged lithium batteries:

  1. It will increase security risks;
  2. Accelerate battery aging;

Notice :

Do not mix the battery with metal objects to prevent the metal objects from touching the positive and negative electrodes of the battery, causing a short circuit, damaging the battery, or even causing danger.

Forbidden to disassemble the outer box of the battery pack.

In daily use, the humidity and acidic substances in the air will accelerate the corrosion and aging of the components and lines of the battery pack’s protective plate, which will shorten the service life of the battery pack
